Wednesday, 23 June 2004 Organ register could be nightmare
Health Ministry officials are warning that creating an organ donor register could be a cultural and logistical nightmare.
Parliament's Health Select Committee has been briefed on the issue.
Options for a formal register are being considered.
Chief medical adviser Colin Feek says the Ministry is using focus groups, submissions, and looking at international models.
Forty-four percent of New Zealanders tick the organ donor box on their driver licence, but there were just 33 donors last year.
