Moves to address the increase the number of organ donations are getting support from a transplant surgeon.
The Health Select Committee has presented a number of recommendations to Parliament, including one for a national organ donor register.
Christchurch surgeon Professor Justin Roake says the committee's recommendation to increase funding for Organ Donation New Zealand to improve community and family education is also a good move.
He also supports recommended moves to survey public awareness and attitudes to organ donation, saying it is important to understand what issues exist in the community.
