NZ organ donation numbers fall
Posted at 5:58pm on 18 Aug 2006
New Zealand's poor rates of organ donation looks set to fall even lower.
Figures collected by the Australia New Zealand Organ Donor Registry show 16 organ donations have been made so far this year.
That compares to 17 at the same time last year, and 101 donations in Australia. Annual donation rates have typically been higher than 40.
Organ donation campaigner Andy Tookey says the ongoing drop paints a bleak picture for the 400 New Zealanders waiting for organs.
