ORGAN CAMPAIGNERS' JOY

Newport-born organ donor campaigner Andy Tookey is celebrating a major breakthrough in his battle to improve the system in his adoptive home.

Mr Tookey is battling  to improve the donor sysystem in New Zealand since discovering his young daughter, Katie, would one day need a transplant.

He told the Argus he scored a major triumph, when the Prime Minister and the mMinister of Health named him in a joint Press statement as being the driving force behinds their announcement for a new organ donor register. "Twice the Health Select Committee have voted in favour of my submission for a donor register and twice it has been rejected by the government. "I have been lobbying the Minster of health constantly this year to change, and now they have done a major U-turn on the subject.
